Your new place has an existing home security system
Many times after you buy a home, you’ll notice that the previous owners left a smart home system. All the components function well, are placed in the right places, and are ready to go. In this case, all you may have to do is to call and set up a new contract. A Vivint expert will still come to your home to make sure there are no usability issues, and they might offer ideas on an upgrade or two. It's a preliminary visit, and you can have your 24/7 monitoring set up without having a bill for any new components -- unless you make additions.
The old homeowners can transfer an existing Vivint contract to you for a one-time transfer fee to make your life simpler. If the outgoing residents downsize to an apartment or smaller home, turning over the security contract may be an addendum of the sale.
You want to move and bring your home security components with you
You may need to take your existing Vivint system with you to your new place when you move. Luckily, it's fairly simple to do, as most alarms and smart devices are wireless. You can take down each alarm or camera yourself or call a Vivint expert to come and dismantle the system. Then a pro will set up the same features -- and any new items you need -- in the new place. Your home security contract will remain the same.
